Description
The Meritage Dual Wine Opener has been designed specifically to aide in the removal of older and fragile corks from bottles of wine 15 years and older. The combination corkscrew & Ah-So two prong professional quality wine tool is extremely effective in removing older compromised corks from vintage wine bottles, whole and intact. The ergonomically designed two-part handle combined with the two graduated flexible steel prongs and self-centering spiral, allows increased purchase and control during the cork extraction process.

The Meritage Wine Opener is the perfect blend of form and function. Ergonomically designed for ease of use, comfort and control during the cork extraction process.
The Meritage two-piece wine opener brings together two well-known products: The classic “direct pull” corkscrew and the 'Ah-So' wine opener. The Meritage can be combined so that the two parts lock together into one unit to aide in the removal of older vintage wine corks.
Step 1.
Gently wiggle the two prongs down between the cork and the bottle.
Insert the longest leg first.
It is important to wiggle step-by-step, otherwise you risk pushing the cork down into the bottle.
This two prong part is also known as a butler’s friend or “Ah-So” (from the German Ach So!, meaning “Now I understand!”).
The twin-prong cork puller can extract a cork without damaging it, to allow for sampling the wine before re-inserting the cork.
Step 2.
Holding the bottle securely, carefully turn half a turn. This loosens the cork from the bottle.
In older bottles of vintage wine in particular, the cork can be very stubborn and difficult to remove in one piece.
When the two prong part is rotated, the two legs release the cork from the bottle.
In most cases, the cork can already now be pulled out in one piece.
With vintage wines, this can be risky, as the cork can break during extraction.
Step 3.
Insert the worm of the corkscrew into the center hole of the two prong Ah-So part and screw it all the way down to load the cork.
In the handle of the two prong Ah-So part, there is an internal thread which is precisely adapted to the worm, so that it screws down exactly in the middle of the cork.
The internal thread also ensures that the two corkscrew parts lock together as a whole unit.
When the worm is screwed down precisely in the middle of the cork, maximum ‘grip’ is ensured when the cork is pulled up.
Step 4.
With the two handles now together, the cork is captured both inside and outside.
The corkscrew worm sits in the middle and the two flat prongs clamped securely around the cork.
This self-locking construction ensures that you can pull up the cork with the two parts together as a whole.
There is therefore no risk of only pulling up one part and thereby destroying the cork.
Step 5.
Holding the bottle securely, slowly pull and twist the combined tool upward while continuing to turn to remove the cork.
